Description
La Llorona Xochimilco: At the End of the Road
Board a trajinera, a traditional Mexican flat-bottom boat, and glide through the canals of Xochimilco until you step onto solid ground at Chinampa Yolpaki, where La Llorona awaits. Since 1993, this show has combined live music, theater, and pre-Hispanic dance to keep one of Mexico’s most deeply rooted legends alive, on the very natural stage where it was born.
This 2026 season, “At the End of the Road…” honors more than three decades of history shared with the water, the ahuejote trees, and everyone who has made this tradition possible year after year. At the foot of the pyramid, steps from the main stage, you’ll feel the music’s vibration, the fire of the dances, and the mystical wail that has made this production one of the most anticipated Day of the Dead events in Mexico City.

What to expect
The full experience lasts about 3 hours: roughly 45 minutes by trajinera each way, plus the show. We recommend arriving 1 hour before your scheduled time so you can board without rushing.
Dress warmly (jacket, hat, gloves, blanket). It feels much colder on the chinampa. Don’t forget mosquito repellent.
Boarding point
Parque Ecoturístico Michmani
Antiguo Canal de Cuemanco #3, next to the “Virgilio Uribe” rowing and canoeing course, Xochimilco, Mexico City, 16038
The story behind the legend
The play recreates the story of Nahui and Yaotécatl, a Xochimilca community facing the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors: the threat, the loss, and the search for justice that gave rise to one of Mexico’s most enduring legends. A family-friendly experience for all ages, held rain or shine.
